Think!Chinatown: Rocking the Boat illustrated documentary short

I created over 40 illustrated frames for a documentary short film by Think!Chinatown, a nonprofit organization that fosters community through neighborhood engagement, storytelling and the arts. I worked closely with Yin Kong, the producer and curator of the project, Hai Li Kong who edited the story and interview, and Krysta Amelia who animated the final video.

The story focuses on Yee Ling Poon, an activist and immigration lawer. It covers her early life, her move to New York from Hong Kong, and her activism in the 70’s in Manhattan’s Chinatown. She advocated for many individuals who were unfairly treated by law enforcement and faced discrimination when trying to find work.

References crucial to this project include photography by Corky Lee, photos generously provided by Yee Ling, and various photo archives from The New York Times, The Village Sun, Hyphen Magazine, Wei Min Asian American News, AALDEF, Asam news, and others.
